Long weekend drinks!

Whether it’s a long weekend, a hot summer Monday, or a trip to Mexico, who doesn’t love a delicious Margarita?!

Our first dinner, when we land in Bucerias, Mexico is always to Karen’s Place for their Margarita Dorada Cadillac. Aka a little piece of heaven… one of our favourite drinks in hand, sitting beachside, listening to the ocean waves roll in, feeling the sun on our faces.

Although we don’t know Karen’s exact recipe (we expect it’s kept under lock and key) we thought we’d share the closest version with you.

Seeing as Rochelle and Kathy (read more about them HERE) learned this recipe and skill in Mexico, where fresh limes are abundant, we always suggest you pick up some fresh limes at the grocery store too, to make it authentic as possible.

Margarita Recipe from Shift Adventures

Start by juicing your limes. If they are really firm, a little trick I earned is to pop the limes into the microwave for a few seconds (like 10) then take them out and roll them on the counter, under the palm of your hand for a for a few seconds again. This will soften them up, and help you get the most amount of juice out of your limes as possible.

Next measure out your tequila and grand marnier. We have included the exact oz’s in the recipe, but feel free pour to taste.

Start by rimming your 2 glasses with some kosher salt. Add ice. Pour your fresh lime juice over ice, followed by your favourite Tequila and Grand Marnier. Add in some carbonated water for a bubbly addition. Then finish with some agave nectar to taste.

If you prefer a blended Margarita, throw all the ingredients into your blender. Blend until ice is the consistency you like, and pour into 2 rimmed glasses.
